Went to the Muskogee SAREX this weekend. Only got to go on 2 sorties, but had one good ELT search in a neighborhood (It just happened to be under powerlines, resting against a metal shed). Almost have GTM3 rating, just waitning on basic first aid and a litter carry, which i needed before i got there. But all in all we did a lot of sitting in the sun waiting for sorties.

Someday I should actually attend one of these so I can get a piece of paper that says I'm qualified......

If you look at the regs it just says that you need to be familiar with STANDARD (mind you) First Aid it doesnt say you have to be certified so if you have a nurse, doctor, some sort of medical rated tech (EMT, CST, LPN, etc) show you how to render first aid. Basically standard first aid is just keeping a person alive long enough for someone more qualified to arrive and take over. If some one is bleeding I'm not asking you to make it stop just contain it until someone else can take over and still have something to work with. Just have whoever is training you write a letter stating what you covered and a contact number so that we can verify it and we will try and see if that can be used for your GTM3 When you start getting into GTL and stuff where you are actually responsible for people under you then I may ask for a certification. Hope this helps
