my guidon in ROTC was heavier than our squadron guidon it was an inch and a half thick solid wood it was a birch type wood so it was light for the mass but our squadron guidon is only about an inch to an inch and a quarter.
the main thing is you dont want something that is going to fold up when the wind blows you want something that is as durable as your flight and reflect the same characteristics.
Since no one at squadron has figured out how to pack light for sarex's or missions then your guidon should not be light either
