Here is the info that was emailed to me about the SAREX:
Some useful information about the SAREX in Norman this month.
Senior Members - Billeting:
The Holiday Inn in Norman (405) 364-2882 1000 North Interstate Drive (West side
of Interstate) has offered us a group rate for those that don't wish to bunk in
the gym with the cadets. It is $74/night per room. Ask for the "Civil Air
Patrol" or "RDG" Group Rate. Rooms are first come, first served. There are
only 20 rooms available for us. There is a movie theater and several
restaurants and fast food places within walking distance of this hotel. About 5
minutes from OUN.
For those seniors that are truly adventurous, you can bunk with the cadets in
the gym at no charge.
For the less adventurous, there is also the Norman-Days Inn @ 609 North
Interstate Drive (East side of Interstate). (405) 360-4380. If you need
additional choices, go out to www.airnav.com/airport/KOUN and check out
the choices.
Cadets - Billeting:
We have arranged for a FREE place. It is a gymnasium within marching distance
of the airport terminal building. We have to pack up all our stuff each night
and we have made arrangements for a place to keep it during the daytime. You
will need to bring you own sleeping bag and cot.
Cadet Supervision:
If your squadron is sending cadets, don't forget your squadron has to provide
the senior member supervision (including the overnight supervision) of your
squadron's cadets. Need at least one male senior member for your squadron's
male cadets. Need at least one female senior member for your squadron's female
cadets. If you have made arrangements for another squadron's senior member(s)
to supervise your squadron's cadets it needs to be spelled out in both
participation letters (your squadron's participation letter as well as the
squadron's participation letter that has agreed to supervise your cadets -
please provide the names of those senior members supervising your cadets). That
means those seniors supervising the cadets will be spending the night(s) with
the cadets in the gym.
Entertainment - Saturday evening:
Cadets - get with your squadron's CAC representative. CAC is in charge of
providing the list of choices to the SAREX event staff so that the selection(s)
can be narrowed down and implemented.
Breakfast (Saturday and Sunday):
Ozzie's (restaurant in the terminal building) has made us a deal with two
different kinds of breakfasts. The first is: Bacon, Eggs, Toast and a drink
(soda or milk or juice or coffee) for $5. The second is Pancakes, Sausage and a
drink. Same price. Same drink selections. Price includes the tip for the
waitress. This will give us the opportunity to be out to get over to the sign
in with plenty of time. For those of you with heartier appetites, the
all-you-can-eat breakfast is available for the regular menu price. We need to
be out of there by 07:30.
Lunch on Saturday:
Sack lunches will be available for purchase at the SAREX. Anticipate a
sandwich, chips, drink, and a piece of fruit.
Dinner on Saturday:
Working on Bar-B-Que with all the fixin's. More to come on that as we get
closer to the date.
Snacks:
There will be a snack bar on site as well. Drinks (soda, bottled water), chips,
snacks will be available for purchase. We will do our best to ensure the prices
at the snack bar are less than the vending machines in the terminal with a
reasonable selection/variety of items.
Parking:
Please don't park in the terminal parking lot. We have access to a large
parking lot to the East of the terminal that is actually closer to the staging
areas that will be used.
Flight Line:
One will be in operation each of the days of the SAREX (including Friday
evening). No vehicles on this flight line. The airport has reserved us tie
downs directly in front of the squadron. Follow the flight line marshaller’s
directions.
Participation letters are due by COB this Friday (10 March).
We will be sending out more information as soon as it becomes available. Be
sure to let your squadron commander know what kind(s) of training you need so
that they can include this information in the participation letter. We will use
the information from the letters to know how much food to buy and let the
restaurant know how many are coming.
Note: No fair listing your whole squadron in the participation letter and saying
everybody needs training in everything and then only three of you show up. That
will cause the host squadron to expend more money than necessary.
