Here are the requirements to be part of the Tomb Guard for 2006. These were actually announced at the meeting about a month ago, but here they are in writing. There will probably be additions as we go. At the time these were announced it was possible for any cadet who was on the MML to qualify for Tomb duty.
1. Cadets must hold the grade of C/SSgt or above before the Friday immediately preceeding Memorial Day. For 06 that will be 26 May.
2. Cadets must have promoted at least once in the 6 months prior to the Friday immediately preceeding Memorial Day. (Next year this will change to 2 promotions within the previous year)
3. Cadets must provide documentation from their school of a grade point average of 3.0 or above for the previous school year.

Here is a bit of clarification regarding requirement one. This information was not previously mentioned and that it my fault. It's just something that slipped through the cracks. My apologies to those who might have been affected.
The intention of requirement one was that all Guards had fulfilled the requirements of the Wright Brothers Award. Receiving this award comes with a promotion to C/SSgt. CAPR 52-16 requires 60 days between completion of each achievement. The WBA is NOT an achievement, it is a Milestone Award and is thus not subject to the 60 day waiting period IAW current regulations. The only time in service requirement to receive the WBA is 6 months as a CAP member. What this means is that you could conceivably pass your Feik, be promoted to SrA, pass the WB, and be promoted from A1C to SSgt all in one day. This is a loophole in the regs and we do not issue the promotion immediately following the test if this is the circumstance. However, once you have passed the WB exam you are eligible to do HG. What this means is that you must pass the WB exam on or before 26 May 06. Since this is a special circumstance, cadets who pass the Feik will be allowed to take the WB on the same evening. Be aware that the 50% rule is still in affect. If you pass the Feik and then get below 50% on the WB you will be in a world of hurt because you will be ineligible to test for 60 days. Remember that before committing to take the WB before you are ready.
