Horn and I were looking at the operation of the M1 on that nifty sight for Honor Guard to check out. We thing that if the ?operating arm? (the part that holds and locks the bolt back) If the lip is taken off, maybe when when the guard sgt goes to close it, it will bounce just enought to be able to close, what do you think? Maybe take it out all together?

I was talking to someone about that Monday night. The operating rod catch can be left out of the rifle when it is assembled so the bolt won't lock open. I was also thinking of getting two new operating rod springs to replace the current ones which I think are a little weak. If I get new ones I will cut some length off these to soften them up a little bit so the op rod is easier to move. I think I can rig something up on the follower to hold the bolt open during the inspection, but then retract the follower when we want the bolt to close.
