if you have a basic most of the time you will use the identifier of the station you are using ie the van (35009) your callsign is oilwell 5-0-0-9 if your are an advanced you can checkout or purchase your own equipment and use your own callsign like if you had a handheld capable of cap frequenciesyou would then use your own identifier you may want to double check with Lt Romere to make sure Im telling you the correct info

That's correct. You have to attend the Advanced Class. I plan to have another Basic/Advanced combined class this summer. I'm not sure of a date yet. The class will be an all day deal (last time we ran from 10am-5pm). We collected $5 from everyone and ordered pizza. That is most likely how we will do it next time. I'll let everyone know when we have a time and place.

awsome, will we ever get to use thaese often Like Lt. Sammons said, any time you are assigned a radio that does not already have a call associated with it (i.e. radio in the van, aircraft) you may use your call sign. Usually this will be during a mission or exercise of some sort.

An addition to the above..... the above applies to holders of an ROA-Advanced. Basic holders will need to have an Advanced operator with them and will use the call sign of the Advanced operator. I will do some research to confirm this, but I believe that is the case.

I said I would do some more research and have found that I gave some incorrect information. The following is from the OK Wing Communications Web Site.
"CAPR 100-1 states that members with ROA-Advanced are issued callsigns and that members with ROA-Basic are issued temporary callsigns while using radios. This creates a great recordkeeping problem. Oklahoma Wing has elected to issue ROA-Advanced members callsigns and to allocate a block of one callsign for each ROA-Basic to be used while that member is using a radio that is without a special functional callsign. This means that any questionable operations are readily traced back to the appropriate operator without trying to determine who issued the temporary callsign and who has custody of the records. This system is self-documenting and eliminates unnecessary paperwork since each ROA-Basic will be assigned his single callsign from his personal block when operating a radio.
Quick Review of radio usage rules -- remember that one cannot own a radio for CAP use without an ROA-Advanced. Also, one cannot be issued (CAPF 37C - Custody Receipt) a corporate radio without an ROA-Advanced. ROA-Basic holders can operate a radio, without supervision. Members without an ROA can only operate a radio under the supervision of a member who does have an ROA."
What that says is that the "Advanced" is required to own or have a radio issued to you. A "Basic" may operate a CAP radio while unsupervised. If the radio does not have a call sign of it's own (in a van or airplane for example) then the "Basic" or "Advanced" operator will use the call sign assigned to them. An operator without a "Basic" or "Advanced" MUST be supervised by a member with an ROA.
Bet that is clear as mud!! If you have any questions about this please ask.
