The flag has been optional in that position since dinosaurs roamed the earth. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why this has lit such a fire under the Man all at once.

why? The reason the Flag is on the [Army] uniform is to identify themselves as members among a joint coalition of forces operating in Afganistan and Iraq. I really dont see the point our uniforms already dont look anything like the airforce to begin with but that is just an observation

From the Memo dated 5 Dec. 2005, . Effective immediately cadet and senior members will wear the reverse American flag on the right shoulder of the BDU and CAP distinctive field uniform. This 2” X 3” gold reverse field flag will be worn centered, ½ inch below the shoulder seam on the right sleeve. All patches previously authorized to be worn in this position will be removed.

I dont know about Sammons but im dang proud to wear the flag on my shoulder. I dont care what people think or how much we look or dont look like the Air Force. Guess what we are CAP an auxillary of the Air Force not the Air Force. Im done now.

It's not that I'm un-patriotic. However you do notice that when the Pledge of Allegence is being recited that members of the uniform services do not put their hands over their heart: The oath that they swore is more binding than the Pledge. They get up every day of their service career and even after their career's sworn to uphold the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic
My wearing a uniform and participating in the uniform services of this nation is my patriotic duty and my personal pride. I do not need an American Flag on my shoulder to remind me of my obligation to the freedom that I enjoy. I get up every day and remember that.
I've been in countries on the verge of Civil War and I know that at least 400,000 service men and women will have to die before this nation is even close to that happening
I'm just saying I dont need a flag to show people I'm an American all they have to do and should do is just observe my actions, why because I'm a volunteer.
