OK here is my two cents worth.
First off those of us who volunteer should remember we are the United States Air Force Auxiliary known as civil air patrol. already our uniforms look nothing like the air force's because CAP chooses to live in the past instead of adapting to future needs. CAP members should be proud of the heritage they continue to add to every year. However unlike the actual military which has no choice but to adapt and overcome or die most of the things that continue to hold us (CAP as a whole) are not life threatening but they do certainly limit us on just what things we can do exactly. last night was a good example (16 DEC. for those who don't read post times) there is no way in hell anyone in cap would approve an activity like that. but how many of you can trust your partner more now because he really did hold your life in his hands. (that goes for all of us that night even myself) but we had to do that as friends not members of an organization where we are allowed to go above and beyond what is expected of the skills we learn to be of service to our community state and nation. If higher ups thought that was a signed in CAP activity we would all get a letter of reprimand at the very least and some of us would be 2B'd outright. These are the same people who instead of embracing our past as the past and remembering it fondly and reverence demand that we live in it and embrace being part of the army air corps instead the US Air Force. Should we continue to make this lateral move from our parent service then lets become the Civil Army Patrol instead and draw our monies from their budget. The Air Force has more important things to spend money on such as new aircraft and personnel to fly and maintain said aircraft, and then those people who support the first group. I do not wear a flag on my shoulder because I already have U.S. Air Force over my heart, and i am not part of a coalition who's mission is to move in and occupy territory with other nations in the effort to bring peace. No my mission is to support them by putting iron on target. MY mission is to kill people and break their @#$%.

I dont care wether I ever leave this country or wether I fight in a coalition. I serve in America and im bloody proud that I do. And If my only service to this country is CAP then gosh dang im gonna do it the best I can, and Im gonna wear that American Flag and Im gonna wear it with pride. Its not that were ever going to leave this country, its the fact that our flag symbolizes freedom. Freedom, most people dont have that in other countries So I will display my freedom on my shoulder. And that should be the end of this discussion. Its in the regs so its mandatory. So if you all chose to revolt about the American Flag thats just downright unAmerican. End of story.

what about my NESA patch or hawk, PJOC, COS; stuff that says we've already gone above and beyond in our patriotic duty but gone even further and for me that is what my nesa patch symbolizes now someone who doesnt know me says that I cant wear that, even though I've earned it and without so much as asking me how I felt that NESA patch to me represents what I've gone out and learned so that I could be of service to my country and flag

You dont frakin get it. Were talking about the Flag of the United States of America. Why in hades are you disputing wether or not we should wear the Flag. Actually think about what your saying here i mean you are disputing wether or not you feel like wearing our Countries Flag. To me there is NO argument.

I agree with Batman I am VERY proud to be wearing the American flag on our uniform. I don't care what everyone else thinks. The American flag represents our freedom of living in this country without having to worry about being shot for doing something that someone else doesn't want us to do. So I will be dang sure I wear the flag on my shoulder.

If you really want to know why I'm not into it because I'm not into fad's. Our uniforms didnt need to be patriotic before 9/11. We did our job with pride we served our communities with pride we were there when disater struck with pride and we didnt need the flag to tell people we were americans.
Now just because you can buy magnetic flags for your bumper at anyplace with a cash register we need to be more pc and show people that we're patriots too, what's up with that. Our soldiers dont need to wear flags to be patriots they already are. The whole flag on the shoulder/coalition force is so the good guys know who not to shoot (aka the anti-bullet fod patch)
Onthe September 8th 2001 I gave directions to one of my roomates in college how to get to my house. I told him if you get lost its the only house in the neighborhood with an American flag out front... the rest they say is history

Calling our flag a "FAD" is going way to far. This argument has gone on long enough I am obviously not making any headway and well im just getting frustrated. I love my flag ive loved it before 9/11 and will continue to love it. If you dont wear the Flag on your shoulder cause you dont want to be trendy thats your prob. I however WILL WEAR MY FLAG WITH PRIDE. nothing you say is going to convince me otherwise so there is no use in writing to make up some more reasons y you r against our wearing the flag.

Sorry you made me angry calling our Flag a "FAD". What would you have us do take the flag out of our schools, churches, and buisness. Stop saying one nation under God cause you know thats kinda fadish so how about we all just bow to the east and call it good. Why dont we just stop displaying the car magnet flags because we support our troups because well thats kinda fadish. Dont try and tell me there is not really a reason why we should wear our Nations Flag. Because frankly there is none!!!

my reasoning is tradition One nation under God was an establishing factor in the writing of our constitution for our founding fathers and (in my firm opinion) is one of the reasons that America has survived and continues to survive to this day despite anything that happens Flags in schools are there to teach and instill a sense of nationality in young americans and should continue to foster that sense of national pride. Again another tradition The American Flag on the Uniform where is the origin of this tradition? Why was the flag put on the uniform to begin with? What I am questioning is the motivation behind this sudden change in policy; why hasnt the Air Force placed the flag on their uniforms, why do I look so different from my parent service, why am I becoming more and more different. It feels more like being the foster child of the Air Force than the step child
